While Miss Liberty in New York Harbor lifts her torch as a beacon of hope, generations of southerners have looked to her smaller replica as a promise of financial security. Liberty National Life Insurance, the flagship subsidiary of Torchmark, provides life and health insurance products throughout the southeastern US. Its primary products, individual life insurance and supplemental health insurance, are targeted at middle-income families. It distributes its products directly to individuals and through workplace plans. In 1958 the company installed a one-fifth-scale replica of the Statue of Liberty atop its Birmingham, Alabama headquarters; the statue has since been moved to a prominent park.
