Lennox Competition

Recent Developments
US Nonresidential Construction Growth Continues - The value of US nonresidential construction put in place, a driver of demand for electrical, plumbing, and hardware supplies, rose 11.6 percent in the first four months of 2008 compared to 2007. Lodging construction climbed 41.8 percent, and office construction rose 16.7 percent. Many experts say that growth in nonresidential construction may decline if the US economy continues to weaken.
Remodeling Activity Stable - US remodeling activity, a driver of demand for electrical, plumbing, and hardware supplies, was unchanged during first quarter 2008 compared to the prior quarter, according to the National Association of Home Builders' (NAHB) Remodeling Market Index (RMI). Minor additions and alterations decreased, while maintenance and repair increased. NAHB expects remodeling activity to decline slightly in 2008 before recovering in 2009.
AC Shipments Continue Decline - US factory shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps declined 6 percent in April 2008 compared to April 2007, according to the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute, the third consecutive year-over-year decline in shipments for April. Continuing weakness in the US housing market is expected to result in lower shipments throughout 2008.
Competitive Landscape
Sales are driven by demand from the construction, electrical distribution, telecommunications, and hardware retailing industries. Profitability depends largely on merchandising and efficient inventory management. Small operators can compete successfully by stocking specialty products, stocking all the parts their particular customers need, or delivering superior service. The industry is highly automated: average annual revenue per employee is around $450,000.
