Lennox Competition

Now Viewing Lennox's competition in: Electrical, Plumbing, and Hardware Distributors (primary)

Recent Developments

Remodelers Perceive Sluggish Market Demand - Residential remodeling activity, a demand indicator for electrical, plumbing, and hardware distributors, remained listless during second quarter 2008, says the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). According to the Association's Remodeling Market Index (RMI), the current market conditions indicator sat at 41.8, the same level as first quarter 2008. (Any number over 50 indicates that the majority of remodelers view market conditions as improving.) RMI has declined steadily in overall remodeling activity since 2005. An NAHB economist expects remodeling to remain flat through 2009, followed by an upswing due to home maintenance needs.

Lennox Unveils New Solar-Powered System - Lennox Industries, a leading manufacturer of plumbing and HVAC equipment, introduced SunSource, the industry's first integrated solar-assisted residential heating and cooling system. SunSource's patent-pending technology uses the sun to help power a fan motor. The company claims that the solar-powered technology, available to the public in 2009, will help reduce peak residential energy usage and consequently lower energy bills.

Global Green Building Rising - Construction contractors, key customers for electrical, plumbing, and hardware distributors, see green in their futures, according to a McGraw-Hill Construction report on global green building trends. Based on a survey of early green building market adopters in 45 countries, the report finds that by 2013, 53 percent of responding firms expect to be largely dedicated to green building on more than 60 percent of their projects, up from 30 percent today. The report also says that 86 percent of firms expect sales growth and increased profits associated with green building.

Competitive Landscape

Sales are driven by demand from the construction, electrical distribution, telecommunications, and hardware retailing industries. Profitability depends largely on merchandising and efficient inventory management. Small operators can compete successfully by stocking specialty products, stocking all the parts their particular customers need, or delivering superior service. The industry is highly automated: average annual revenue per employee is around $450,000.
