Overview
Lear doesn't take a back seat to anyone when it comes to manufacturing automotive seats. The company is a leader in the global market for car seat systems and a supplier of automotive electronics. In addition to seating systems and their components, Lear manufactures wire harnesses, junction boxes, terminals and connectors, sound systems, and video entertainment systems. It has more than 200 facilities in 36 countries and sells to automakers such as BMW, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Toyota, and Volkswagen. Lear gets nearly two-thirds of its sales outside North America. Struggling with debt and the effects of the global automotive industry downturn, Lear filed for Chapter 11 in July 2009 and emerged in November.
