KKR Financial Company Description
KKR Financial Holdings is a specialty finance company that invests in secured and unsecured corporate loans, including mezzanine loans, high-yield corporate bonds, asset-backed securities, and debt and equity securities. It has more than $18 billion of assets under management. The company is managed by KKR Financial Advisors; both companies are affiliates of private equity and leveraged buyout firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. Formerly a real estate investment trust (REIT), KKR Financial had significant investments in residential mortgages and related securities, but with the mortgage market melting down, the company restructured, dropped its REIT status, and stopped investing in residential mortgages in 2007.
