King Pharmaceuticals Company Description

King Pharmaceuticals may not be the monarch of US drug market, but there are a few therapeutic kingdoms it would like to rule. The firm makes branded drugs in several niche markets, including neuroscience and critical care. Its best-seller has been cardiovascular drug Altace, but when the drug unexpectedly lost patent protection in 2007, King shifted its focus onto other products, including insomnia drug Sonata and muscle relaxant Skelaxin, as well as a portfolio of primary care antibiotics and hospital-administered drugs. The company also contracts its excess manufacturing capacity to outside drug companies. Its Meridian Medical Technologies subsidiary makes the EpiPen, a pre-filled auto-injection device.
