Kimball International Company Description
These days, keyboards on Kimball products are used for entering data, not making music. Once a leader in the domestic piano business, Kimball International now makes more of its money from making navigation systems, HVAC controls, and defibrillators. Kimball boasts two business segments. Its Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) unit sells contract electronics and electro-mechanical assemblies primarily to the transportation, medical, and industrial markets. The company's Furniture segment makes and markets furniture and cabinets for the office, hospitality, and retail industries. Combined, the founding Habig and Thyen families own more than 50% of Kimball and fill its executive and board suites.
