Deciphering a doctor's bad handwriting is no problem for Katz Group. One of Canada's largest private companies, Katz Group is among the largest drugstore chains in North America. It has grown, primarily through acquisitions, to number more than 1,900 pharmacies across nine Canadian provinces and three US states. Its Canadian banners include Rexall Drug Stores, Guardian, Medicine Shoppe Canada, and Pharma Plus Drugmart, as well as the Meditrust mail-order pharmacy group. The company is consolidating its pharmacy banners under the Rexall name. Rexall is also Katz's private-label brand. The company operates about 55 Snyder's (acquired in 2001) stores in the US. Founder and Chairman Daryl Katz controls the firm.
