Jazz Semiconductor Company Description
Making semiconductors in exotic materials and processes is the specialty of Jazz Semiconductor, a contract manufacturer of chips, also known as a silicon foundry. Jazz also uses the ol' reliable material, plain old silicon, but many chips for networking and wireless applications call for fabrication in silicon germanium and other compound semiconductors. Customers in the US account for most of Jazz Semiconductor's sales. In 2008 rival foundry Tower Semiconductor acquired Jazz Technologies, the parent company of Jazz Semiconductor, for about $169 million, including the assumption of debt.
