Insurance and asset manager Primerica spun off from Citigroup in Q2 2010, leaving its former parent a parting gift of $320 million courtesy of its IPO on the NYSE. At the close of the quarter, its per-share stock price was up a nice 43% from its offer price of $15. Not creating the shock it had hoped was Global Geophysical Services. Its Q2 IPO opened at $12 a share and went south from there, closing down 42% on the NYSE. The company provides two- and three-dimensional images of subsurfaces in areas difficult to explore -- vital in the search for oil and gas. Perhaps Global Geophysical simply was swept up by larger market forces engulfing the oil and gas sector in Q2.
