Led by Iraq-born and Chase Manhattan-bred CEO Nemir Kirdar, Investcorp makes private equity investments in the US and Western Europe, manages hedge funds, and invests in real estate. The company is known for helping revive upscale companies Saks, Tiffany, and Gucci in the past, but its current portfolio includes stakes in less-glamorous firms such as American Tire Distributors, Berlin Packaging (acquired in 2007), and Associated Materials. Investcorp Technology Ventures invests in high-tech firms. Investcorp has more than $13 billion of assets under management. The company bought specialty publisher Randall-Reilly in 2008.
