Led by Iraq-born and Chase Manhattan-bred CEO Nemir Kirdar, Investcorp makes private equity investments in the US and Europe, manages hedge funds, and invests in real estate. The company is known for helping revive upscale companies Saks, Tiffany, and Gucci, but its current portfolio includes stakes in less glamorous firms, such as American Tire Distributors, Berlin Packaging, and Associated Materials. Investcorp Technology Partners invests in high-tech firms. The company has about $17 billion of assets under management. In late 2008 Investcorp and Barclays Private Equity bought N&W Global Vending, a pan-European manufacturer of food and beverage vending machines, for an undisclosed amount.
