Independent power producer International Power is powerfully international. The company develops, owns, and operates primarily fossil-fueled power plants worldwide. The company has interests in scores of power plants around the world which collectively have a gross generating capacity of more than 72,360 MW. The company also has interests in about 15,500 MW of power plants under construction or in the planning stage. International Power sells power through supply contracts and merchant marketing and trading transactions. In 2011 it was acquired by GDF SUEZ, which merged its GDF SUEZ Energy International unit into International Power to create the #1 global independent power generation company.
