Overview

Independent power producer International Power is powerfully international. The company develops, owns, and operates primarily fossil-fueled power plants worldwide. It has interests in more than 45 power stations in 20 countries, which collectively have a gross generating capacity of more than 33,000 MW. The company also has interests in power plants under construction and it is expanding through acquisitions. International Power sells its electricity through supply contracts and merchant marketing and trading transactions. The company's support activities for its core operations include coal mining, gas transportation, steam supply, and water desalination.
