Overview
From its start in 1891 as a maker of streetcar fare registers, Intermatic has evolved to become an integrated manufacturer of energy-control products for both industrial and residential use. The company makes home timers that include pool and spa controls, portable burglar alarms, and appliance timers. It makes night-lights and portable alarms, as well as outdoor lighting systems, such as its Malibu brand of low-voltage systems. Other products include industrial surge protectors, weatherproof covers for electrical outlets, and solar-powered lights. Intermatic sells its products through retailers and wholesalers. Chairman emeritus Douglas Kinney Sr. and his family own the company.
