InterGroup buys, develops, and manages affordable housing and other projects with an eye toward social responsibility. The company owns around 20 apartment complexes, two commercial real estate properties, two single-family residences, and, through subsidiary Santa Fe Financial, majority interest in a San Francisco hotel. Its holdings are primarily concentrated in California and Texas. InterGroup also invests in securities and in real estate portfolios held by other corporations. Chairman and CEO John Winfield owns about 60% of the company. Winfield is also CEO of Santa Fe Financial and its subsidiary, Portsmouth Square.
