Overview
Known for its tools and machinery -- which carved the faces on Mount Rushmore -- Ingersoll-Rand also would like to be known for its other business segments. With about 80 plants worldwide, the company makes refrigeration equipment (Thermo King, Hussmann) used mostly in trucks and supermarkets, locks and security systems (Schlage, Kryptonite), industrial equipment (generators, turbines, and Club Car golf carts). Ingersoll-Rand has sold its Torrington and Dresser-Rand subsidiaries, which included the manufacture of precision bearings and fluid-control devices, respectively. In 2007 Ingersoll-Rand also sold its construction equipment division (Bobcat, utility equipment, and attachments).
