Natural Gas Gathering & Processing Systems Overview

Companies in this industry gather and process natural gas, which is primarily methane. Gathering entails removing the gas from oil or coal bed deposits, in the case of associated gas, or simply pumping the gas from its reservoir, in the case of non-associated gas. Once the gas is removed from the ground, it must be processed to remove ethane, butane, sulfur, and helium. From that point, it can be used locally in its gaseous form or cooled to produce liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) for long distance transportation via pipeline or tanker ship.
