Companies in this industry typically act as intermediary between sellers (or landlords) and owners (or tenants) who are buying, selling, or leasing commercial, industrial, and retail properties. Properties in this industry include undeveloped and developed land, nonresidential buildings such as office buildings and parks, outlet shopping centers, shopping malls, strip centers, and warehouses. Properties in this industry include mixed-use properties -- which can include office, retail, and residential space -- but do not include residential-only properties. Also excluded from this industry are companies engaged in commercial property development, investment, or management; and real estate investment trusts (REITs).
