Companies in this industry provide telemetry, telematics, and related services. Using global positioning systems (GPS) and other technologies, telematics services are used to remotely track the location and movements of vehicles and other assets; common applications include fleet management, travel assistance and navigation, and theft-related recovery. Telemetry services are used for a broader set of purposes, namely the remote measurement and transmission (via wireline or wireless means) of an array of data points from one place to another. Applications can include everything from the transfer of satellite data to earth to the recording and transferring of weather conditions from machines in the field to meteorologists.
