Prescription Benefits Management Industry Overview

Companies in this industry distribute prescription medications and other health products on behalf of managed care plans, corporations, government agencies, and insurance companies. Known as PBMs, these enterprises enter into contracts to buy bulk quantities of prescription drugs and medical products from pharmaceutical and other manufacturers. PBMs, also known as pharmacy benefits management companies, also provide services such as claims management and specialty pharmacy distribution.
