The daily national paper boasts a readership of more than 550,000, while the weekend edition Sunday Independent claims a circulation of more than 280,000. Outside of Ireland, the company has more than 200 papers in the UK (London's The Independent), South Africa and India. It also owns about 40% of APN News & Media, a leading newspaper company serving Australia and New Zealand and publisher of The New Zealand Herald. Former chairman and CEO Sir Anthony O'Reilly controls about 30% of the company.
