Impac Mortgage Holdings Company Description
Freddie Mac isn't looking so stodgy anymore. Impac Mortgage Holdings, which used to invest in loans considered unpalatable by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, was impacted by the subprime mortgage bust of 2007 and has ceased all lending activities of nonconforming loans. It will concentrate on conforming loans going forward -- a reversal of its previous strategy, in which the real estate investment trust (REIT) primarily invested in Alt-A (one step above subprime) residential mortgages, second mortgages, and mortgage-backed securities. The REIT has also ceased its warehouse and commercial lending activities. Impac Mortgage Holdings is also considering new lines of business including asset management services.
