ImaRx Company Description
Tiiiiiinny bubbles. It's not just a song. For ImaRx, they are a potential weapon against deadly blood clots and stroke. Under its SonoLysis program, the biopharmaceutical company is developing therapies for vascular disorders, such as ischemic stroke, based on its microbubble technology. Used in conjunction with ultrasound, the microbubbles break up blood clots and restore blood flow to oxygen-deprived tissues. ImaRx's commercial product, urokinase (formerly marketed as Abbokinase), is FDA approved for the treatment of pulmonary embolism. Urokinase was acquired from Abbott Laboratories in 2006 and since changing hands is being rebranded as Kinlytic. It is used in hundreds of acute care hospitals thoughout the US.
