Icahn Enterprises, formerly American Real Estate Partners, goes beneath the glitz and the glamour and invests in the dirt. The diversified holding company develops real estate, primarily single- and multifamily homes and residential lots. Real estate operations also include condos, hotels, and golf courses. Its PSC Metals subsidiary is one of the largest scrapyard operators in the US. The company also owns WestPoint International, a US maker of bed, bath, and other home products. Icahn sold its casino holdings, which included the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel, and Tower in Las Vegas, in 2008. Icahn and Company, the hedge fund of billionaire corporate raider Carl Icahn, owns around 92% of the company.
