Bathroom and kitchen fixtures, flooring, and tools are available at Homebase's more than 300 stores in the UK and Ireland, as well as online. The chain also carries appliances, consumer electronics, furniture, and lighting, and it offers kitchen installation services. Since its founding in 1979 and the opening of the first Homebase store in Surrey in 1981, the company has endured several ownership changes, such as its demerger from GUS when that firm spun off its Home Retail Group (formerly Argos Retail Group) unit in 2006 as a publicly traded company.
