HKScan Oyj
Overview
Make no bones about it, HKScan is one of Finland's top market leaders in meat and poultry products. It is also one of the major players in Sweden, Poland, and the Baltic region (Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia). The company also produces pork, beef, and poultry (chicken and turkey) meat, processed meats, sausages, and convenience foods. In addition to its own brands, HKScan owns stakes in companies that are market leaders in their countries. The firm has a joint venture with Denmark-based Danish Crown, which controls the Polish meat company Sokolów. To expand its poultry business beyond Finland and the Baltic states, HKScan acquired Denmark's Rose Poultry for nearly €24 million (about $30 million) in 2010.
