Hercules Company Description
Hercules labors to strengthen products such as paper, paint, and textiles. The company's paper technologies division supplies water-treatment and functional performance chemicals and services to the pulp and paper industry. Its Aqualon subsidiary makes thickeners for water-based products such as latex paints, printing inks, and oral hygiene products. The company's former Pinova unit -- which makes wood and gum rosin resins for adhesives, food and beverages, and construction materials -- was moved within Aqualon in 2006. Hercules owns a minority stake in FiberVisions, a business that makes staple fibers used in disposable diapers and automotive textiles. In 2008, Ashland agreed to pay $3.3 billion for Hercules.
