Hat World thanks you for putting a lid on it. The mostly mall-based retailer specializes in caps featuring licensed logos of pro sports teams (MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL) and collegiate athletics. It operates 985 stores under the banners Hat World, Lids, Head Quarters, and several others, in the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Its websites, which run under about 15 names, stock caps with popular regional team logos. The company also holds a licensing agreement with Mainland Headwear. Hat World opened its first store in 1995; six years later, it bought out bankrupt rival Lids and tripled in size. Acquired in 2004 by Genesco, Hat World is part of the parent's Lids Sports Group, which generates about 30% of total sales.
