Harland and Wolff Company Description

Harland and Wolff's (H&W) ship has sailed. After launching vessels from its Belfast shipyard since 1861, the company has closed down most of its shipbuilding operations. Famous as the builder of the Titanic, H&W is now focused on design services and heavy engineering and contract projects such as ship repair and structural jobs. It is involved in ship conversion, steel fabrication, and some shipbuilding. It participated in building the Black Hall Place Bridge in Dublin. It is developing a research and tourism area called Titanic Quarter at its Queen's Island site. H&W has also entered the renewable energy industry and is assembling wind turbines. Norwegian shipping firm Fred.Olsen Energy owns the company.
