Handan Iron & Steel Company Description
Handan Iron & Steel manufactures steel, iron, and chemicals -- chiefly hot- and cold-rolled steel and steel bars, rods, and plates. Handan, which distributes its products throughout China, has an annual production rate of 8 million tons of steel and 4 million tons of iron. The company is 60%-owned by state-controlled Handan Iron & Steel Group (Hangang Group). In 2008, the Chinese government combined Handan with state-controlled Tangshan Iron & Steel to form the country's largest steel enterprise, called Hebei Iron & Steel, after the province in which it is headquartered. The new company plans to boost its production from its current level of about 30 million tons to 50 million tons by 2010.
