S. bakeries [Buffalo News (NY)](12 Dec 2008 03:00:00 EST)Dec. 12--Local Stroehmann Bakeries employees will soon report to South-of-the-border bosses instead of taking orders from the Great White North. Canadian food company George Weston Ltd. announced Wednesday it has sold its U. S. bakery holdings to Mexico baking giant Grupo Bimbo for $2.5 billion. Weston employs some 50 staffers in the Buffalo area.

Mexico's Grupo Bimbo buys US bakery division [AP Financial News](10 Dec 2008 18:54:00 EST)MEXICO CITY_Mexican bakery giant Grupo Bimbo SAB announced Wednesday it has signed an agreement to buy the U.S. subsidiary of Canada's George Weston Ltd. for $2.4 billion, a deal that would make it one of the world's largest baked foods companies. Weston Foods Inc. makes breads and pastries under brands including Entenmann's, Freihofer's, Stroehmann and Thomas'.
