Gristede's Foods Company Description
New York City never sleeps, but eating is another matter. Gristede's Foods feeds hungry New Yorkers through more than 30 area supermarkets (most are located in Manhattan), including new Gristede's Mega Stores. The stores offer fresh meats, produce, dairy products, baked goods, frozen foods, gourmet foods, and nonfood items. About half a dozen Gristede's supermarkets have in-store pharmacies. It offers online shopping through XpressGrocer.com. The firm owns City Produce Operating, which supplies the supermarkets with groceries and produce and sells wholesale fresh produce to third parties. Chairman and CEO John Catsimatidis and Gristede's other major shareholders took the grocery chain private in November 2004.
