Gold Fields Company Description
Gold Fields is one of the world's largest gold exploration and development companies and ranks as South Africa's #2 gold producer, after AngloGold Ashanti. The company produces more than four million ounces of gold a year at mines in South Africa, Ghana, and Australia. Gold Fields has proved and probable reserves of 90 million ounces of gold. In 2006 it acquired Barrick Gold's half interest in the South African South Deep gold project for $1.5 billion. Western Areas Limited had owned the remaining half of South Deep, but Gold Fields acquired Western Areas in early 2007, giving it total control of South Deep.
