Glitnir Company Description

The country itself may be in a deep freeze for most of the year, but you're guaranteed a warm reception at Glitnir if you've got cash. The bank (formerly Íslandsbanki) offers personal, corporate, and investment banking, primarily in Iceland and Norway. It has also extended its reach with operations in Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Sweden, and the UK. The bank formed in the 2000 merger of Icelandic Investment Bank (Iceland's leading investment bank, which grew from investment funds focused on industrial and fishery loans and investments) and Íslandsbanki (the country's #2 commercial bank). In 2008 the government of Iceland announced a plan to acquire a 75% stake in Glitnir for some €600 million.
