GenVec Company Description
GenVec can make a human heart swell -- with blood. One of the biotech's product candidates, BIOBYPASS, may induce new blood vessel formation in heart tissue. BIOBYPASS could be an alternative to, or used in conjunction with, angioplasty, bypass surgery, and other surgical interventions. GenVec's lead drug candidate, TNFerade, may boost the effectiveness of radiation therapy used to treat pancreatic and other types of cancer. A third drug candidate, AdPEDF, targets the "wet" form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a condition caused by the growth of abnormal blood vessels in the eye that leads to blindness. The company is also working with federal agencies to develop infectious disease vaccines.
