Gazprom, Russia's largest company, produces 83% of the nation's natural gas, controls 17% of the world's reserves, and is also the world's largest gas producer. Gazprom relies heavily on Western exports. It also holds stakes in Russian financial institutions, a polypropylene plant, and its own telecom network. The Russian government has boosted its stake in Gazprom from 38% to just more than 50%. Gazprom accounts for about 25% of Russia's tax revenues.
