Overview

The company creates and maintains some 300 databases that are available in a variety of print and online formats. It also offers more than 20,000 magazine, journal, and newspaper titles. Holdings include Macmillan Reference USA (reference titles), Lucent Books (K-12 education), and Thorndike Press (large print editions of popular titles). Gale has offices in Australia, Mexico, Singapore, the UK, and the US. Gale was formed in 1954 by Frederick Gale Ruffner, who wanted to create a comprehensive list of US associations.
