The company's more than 12,000 products (8,000 are proprietary items) include environmentally friendly apparel, organic foods, fair-trade crafts, alternative health-care products, and lifestyle-focused entertainment. It also sells and installs solar energy systems. Products are marketed through catalogs, the Internet, and other retailers (including Costco and Target). The company also runs the Gaia community Web site and Gaiam Travel eco-tourism site. CEO Jirka Rysavy, founder of Corporate Express, started Gaiam in 1988.
