Gables Residential Trust is a real estate investment trust (REIT) that owns, develops, and manages apartment complexes, mainly in the southern US. The company, which also manages properties for third parties, oversees approximately 35,000 apartment homes and more than 60 apartment communities with some 17,000 units. The company targets "affluent renters-by-choice" through its focus on luxury properties in upscale, high-growth urban areas, rather than outlying suburban complexes. In 2005 Gables Residential was acquired by a private partnership sponsored by ING Clarion Partners, a part of Dutch financial giant ING Groep.
