Falabella Company Description
S.A.C.I. Falabella may be more than 100 years old, but Chile's #1 department store chain is hardly showing its age. Falabella runs about 60 department stores, 85 Sodimac home improvement stores, and 30 Tottus supermarkets and hypermarkets in Chile, Peru, Argentina, and Columbia. More than 75% of the company's sales are made in its home country. Additional operations include a bank (with branches in the Falabella stores, allowing them to stay open longer than other banks), retail financial services (insurance, travel services, credit cards, and more), and real estate development. Falabella's proposed merger with Chilean grocer Distribución y Servicio was rejected by antitrust regulators in early 2008.
