The Fairchild Corporation is bucking for a banner year. Formerly focused on making aerospace fasteners, Fairchild now concentrates on its Banner Aerospace unit. Banner distributes aircraft products -- including avionics, radar products, liquid crystal displays, GPS products, and communications systems -- and offers aircraft repair, overhaul, sales, and inspection services. It bought Hein Gericke and PoloExpress and folded them into its sports and leisure segment, Fairchild Sports, which makes and distributes motorcycle clothing, helmets, and accessories. CEO Jeffrey Steiner and his family own about 47% of Fairchild. Steiner and Philip Sassower are seeking to take the company private.
