In the "Ab Fab" modern world where fabrications are the real thing, Fabrinet makes optical components and other precision mechanical assemblies on a contract basis. It manufactures optical switches, beam splitters, power monitoring modules, printed circuit boards, and related products. Fabrinet provides its services to makers of imaging, industrial, automotive, instrumentation, storage, medical, and optical communications equipment. Company chairman Tom Mitchell, a co-founder of Seagate Technology, formed the company in 2000 through the purchase of a Seagate plant in Thailand. In 2007 the company announced plans to go public.
