Overview
The City of Brotherly Love meets the Windy City in utility holding company Exelon. The company distributes electricity to 5.4 million customers in northern Illinois and southeastern Pennsylvania through subsidiaries Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) and PECO Energy. PECO also distributes natural gas to 490,000 customers. Subsidiary Exelon Generation holds the company's power plants (primarily nuclear), of about 25,620 MW. It also buys 6,140 MW of additional capacity. Exelon Power Team is a top wholesale energy marketer, and Exelon Energy markets retail power and offers other energy-related services. In a major move, in 2011 the company agreed to buy Constellation Energy in a $7.9 billion stock deal.
