When you can't squeeze enough money out of elk antlers, you might as well try oil and gas. So went the thinking of Qeva Group when it merged and became Excelsior Energy. Previously the company produced non-prescription arthritis and joint-mobility dietary supplements based on elk velvet antler, the skin that envelops growing antlers. (The name Qeva stood for "Quality Elk Velvet Antler.") However, the company switched gears in 2006 and transformed itself into an oil and gas exploration group searching in the Athabasca oil sands of Alberta and a portion of the UK's North Sea.
