Overview
Exxon Mobil subsidiary Esso Petroleum (which retains the old Standard Oil moniker, S.O., or Esso) refines, distributes, and markets petroleum products in the UK. The company's Fawley refinery near Southampton is the largest in the country. It processes 300,000 barrels of crude oil a day and supplies 14% of all oil products in the UK. Esso Petroleum also operates the UK's biggest privately-owned underground oil pipeline distribution network. The company serves approximately 1 million customers every day through 860 gas stations (600 of which are owned by Esso Petroleum, the rest by independent dealers).
