Epocrates is taking the desk reference off the desk and putting it on a PDA. The company provides clinical information and decision support tools to healthcare professionals via mobile device. Epocrates offers dosing and drug interaction information through its basic (and free) subscription. Premium subscribers can access medical dictionaries, drug reference and treatment guides, insurance codes for billing purposes, and tools integrating drug, disease, and diagnostic information. Epocrates also charges companies for access to its subscriber-base of more than 500,000 health care professionals. The company announced plans to pursue an IPO in 2008.
