Endesa S.A. Company Description

Spain is sunny, but more than10 million Spaniards look to Endesa for light. Spain's #1 electric utility has a generating capacity of 23,280 MW from nuclear, fossil-fueled, hydroelectric, and renewable resource power plants. Endesa also serves 328,811 natural gas companies in Spain. Internationally the group serves 11 million customers in 14 countries (primarily in South America and Europe) and has an installed capacity of 24,492 MW. E.ON and Gas Natural made bids of $47-plus billion and $26-plus billion respectively for Endesa. In 2007 Enel and Acciona jumped in the fray, buying 70% and 25% of the company, repectively when Gas Natural dropped out of the bidding. E.ON acquired Endesa in 2008.
