Overview

Embarq is on a journey to provide telecommunications services in the US. The company provides about 4 million residential and 2 million business lines with local voice service, while its high-speed Internet subscribers number about 1 million. Embarq sells long-distance and wireless phone services through a partnership with former parent Sprint Nextel, and it offers high-capacity network access to other telecom carriers and companies on a wholesale basis. The company's service areas span 18 states, with customers split nearly evenly between urban and rural areas. Embarq was acquired by CenturyTel in 2009. The companies will be combined under the CenturyLink brand by the end of that year.
