Electric Boat Company Description
The name's a mite understated: Electric Boat designs, builds, and maintains nuclear attack and ballistic-missile submarines for the US Navy. A subsidiary of defense giant General Dynamics, Electric Boat was established in 1899 and won its first US Navy contract the next year. The company has delivered its third and final Seawolf-class submarine (Jimmy Carter-SSN23) to the US Navy and is working on several Virginia-class submarines that it is building with Northrop Grumman after having delivered the first one in 2004. Electric Boat continues to provide support and maintenance for Seawolf-, Ohio-, and Los Angeles-class submarines. Electric Boat operates in Connecticut, Virginia, and Rhode Island.
