What NIKE is to the US, ECCO is to Denmark. The company is the country's largest shoe maker and retailer. It operates more than 900 shops worldwide selling an extensive range of men's and women's shoes for business, comfort, and activity. ECCO manufactures about 17 million pairs of them each year. The company has expanded its products portfolio to include golf shoes and running and performance shoes. Outside Denmark, ECCO's operations extend to Asia, North America, and Eastern Europe. Hanna Toosbuy Kasprzak, daughter of deceased founder Karl Toosbuy, owns the company. Karl Toosbuy founded the company in rural Denmark in 1963.
