Duke Energy Kentucky (formerly Union Light, Heat and Power) helps to keep the citizens of the Bluegrass state in the light. The company, organized in 1901, provides electricity and gas to more than 134,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers across northern Kentucky. Duke Energy Kentucky, a direct subsidiary of Duke Energy Ohio, gets its fuel supply from a mix of nuclear, coal-fired, hydroelectric and combustion-turbine generation. Duke Energy acquired Union Light, Heat and Power's parent Cinergy in 2006, and subsequently merged it with Ohio power operations.
